Halloween came and went. Just so we keep the spirit alive few of us along with our kids took a walk around the neighborhood and greeted passerbys. The kids wore their costumes with masks and chit-chatted with their friends. The weather was perfect for a good long walk. As part of our conversations, we discussed how breakfast has become very critical now more than ever, since the kids spend hours in front of their computers and need a nutritious boost before they begin their academic work for the day.

One breakfast which is popular in our home is French Toast.

My 11 year old is a great helper in the kitchen and loves to cook with me. He has a ‘kids cookery book’ which lays out simple recipes that can be handled by kids. We always have to tweak recipes to fit to our norms of ingredient choices. One of the recipes in the book was French toast. So we decided to tweak it.

This is a simple recipe with few ingredients that can be whipped up by kids. My son does all the steps, except the final frying part, which I do. Engage your kids and help them to do what you are comfortable with.

The key step in this recipe is to toast the bread slices lightly before dipping it. Toasting the bread makes the bread dry and suitable to absorb the liquid. The second advantage is, the liquid does not remain on the surface. This helps with uniform and even frying of the toast. Utilize a robust multi-grain bread to enhance the whole grain content.

This recipe is for you N 🙂 Enjoy French Toast with a drizzle of Maple syrup !
