Green Tomato dal
Here is one ‘dal’ dish with green tomatoes. A totally unique dal, which is a South Indian recipe. It has ground fresh coconut added along with cooked dal and tomatoes.

- 1 cup Channa dal
- 3 Green Tomatoes diced
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 4 tbsps Coconut grated fresh
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp Whole Peppercorns
- Salt
To Season -
- 2 tsp Oil
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tsp Urad dal
Cook the channa dal in a saucepan with water
Meanwhile grind to a smooth paste with water - coconut, cumin and peppercorns; set aside
Add the diced Tomatoes to the cooked dal and cook for few minutes until soft
Add turmeric powder and salt and mix well
Add the ground coconut paste and bring to a very low boil Turn off heat
To Season-
Take a small cast iron pan, add oil, mustard seeds
When the mustard crackles, turn off heat, add the urad dal and let it turn golden
Add the season to the dal mixture
Green Tomato dal is ready to serve
